October 2010 – January 2011 :: Writer on Waterloo Road Reunited in conjunction with Shed Media Scotland and BBC Scotland

Prior to graduating with my Masters in TV Fiction Writing I was commissioned along with two of my fellow graduates, Stuart Hill and Chris Willshaw, to write Waterloo Road Reunited, a spin off of the hugely popular NTA winning BBC1 drama Waterloo Road.

February 2009 – May 2009 :: The L.A.B @ BBC Scotland : River City Radio Drama

In February 2009 I was commisioned by the BBC to create and develop a fifteen minute Radio Drama for The LAB at BBC Scotland. This project involved me working closely with a producer to write a three part script which has been recorded with River City actor Stephen Purdon. The drama also includes improvisational scenes recorded with Stephen Purdon and groups of Primary 7 children. The drama, titled ‘Where’s Charlie?!’, will also be used in schools as a workshop lesson as it deals with many issues including bullying, peer pressure, child carers and the environment.

Where’s Charlie?! has recently been recorded and, to the best of my knowledge, it will be broadcast on Radio 4 in early 2010.

November 2008 – January 2009 :: River City at BBC Scotland : Storylining and Character Development

At the end of November I was offered the amazing opportunity to join the River City writing team as a first time writer. Between November and early January, I sat in on storylining and writers meetings and discussed the show in depth. During this period I created three new characters who made their debut in River City (with changes) on June 9th 2009: Innes Maitland, Charlie Bowie and Jennifer Bowie. For this freelance project, I also created various possible storylines based on my knowledge of student life and experiences in this day and age.

June-July 2008 :: Fresh Film and TV, and the Scottish Executive : Idea, Character and Story Development

During this short time I met with one of the founders of Fresh Films in Glasgow to brainstorm and come up with ideas for a road campaign for the Scottish Executive. The campaign was designed around social networking websites such as Bebo and Facebook and I was brought in as a young person to storm ideas and create story-lines. The project was short lived and it gave me a good insight into the industry.
